WOMENS WHEELCHAIR
BASKETBALL
Great Britain will be
playing Mexico in the Women’s 7th place play off on Saturday as they
lost by 72-55 to China today. The game was lost in the first half with 2 17-10
quarters followed by a 15-11 all won by china in the fourth Britain did win
24-23 but by this stage it was all over
Australia defeated the
USA in a very close contest. In the first 2 quarters anybody could have won
with the USA winning the first 12-10 and Australia winning the second 15-14
which meant that it was level at half time. Then Australia got into a grove and
only allowed the US one scoring shot in the third period winning 12-2 you
thought it was all over but the USA did come back and left the role reversal
where Australia could only have one scoring shot but the US could only score 11
loosing the match by 1 point 39-40 Australia will be contesting the gold medal
match while the USA will be competing for bronze.
Germany and the
Netherlands also had a close contest Germany got ahead in the first quarter winning
by 12 points to 8 but it was not too much for the Netherlands to think about as
they won the second quite easily by 21 points to 12 and that must have kicked
the Germans into gear as in the second half Germany took 2 close quarters by 12
points to 8 and by 13 points to 9 to win the match but the Dutch had their chances
especially in the third quarter
In my opinion the problem
in both of these matches is having one bad quarter and being able to fix the
problem that they have. I feel that the experience will be going through the Australians
heads more as they did not have a chance to respond so I think Australia to win
but it will be close and I also think that both teams will have 1 bad quarter
how will they respond
WHEELCHAIR TENNIS
Its down to the semi
finals now and defending champion and Japanese man Singo Kuneda defeated Dutchman Ronald Vink
6-2, 6-2 to ensure himself a spot in the Paralympics final Vink is very unlucky
as in Beijing he lost 3 bronze play off matches. I think he will defend his
gold medal.
In the other Men’s
singles semi Stephane Houdet of France beat Dutchman Makel Sheffers 6-3 6-2 to
reach the final
WHEELCHAIR RUGBY
In the first and second quarter
between Sweden and Australia, Australia had control but the came was very close
as they won 16-10, 16-11 the third and fourth quarters was very close but Australia
still managed to win them 12-11, 16-15. I do not think that this game will help
Australia in any way just possibly to look at their squad. Final score Sweden
47 Australia 60
SAILING
Britains Helena Lucas
took gold in the 2.4mR class and Anexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell got bronze
in the Skud to secure their first ever medals in sailing
CYCLING
Sarah Storey equalled the
Brittish record held by Daye Roberts and Baroness Tammie Grey Thomson as she
got gold in the C4-5 road race seven minutes ahead of silver medallist Anna
Harkowska.
SWIMMING
Mens 200 metres SM19 Britain’s
James Crisp was very unlucky not to get a medal as Mathew Cowdrey won the gold
medal Andriv Kalyna managed to get the sliver and Fredrico Morlacchi from Italy
got the bronze
Natalie Du Toi from South
Africa won the Woman’s 400 metre freestyle S7also from Stephanie Millard Great Britain
got the silver Louise Watkin and from Great Britain got the bronze. Also Ellen Keane
from Ireland had a chance of a medal and it slipped away
In the womans 400 metres
freestyle S7 Susannah Rodgers from Great Britain was unfortunate not to get a
silver medal as she got the bronze in a very close one on one race with Cortney
Jordan from the USA who got silver. Jaqueline Freny from Austrillia was so far
ahead of the pack it was unbelievable and she broke her own world record by 0.9
of a second.
Brit Heather Fredrickson managed to pick up a silver medal in the womans 100 mnetre freestyle S8 loosing to Jessica Longfrom the USA who got gold and beating Madison Elliot from Austrillia who got bronze

Hi Barry,
I am really loving reading your blog. As I'm working most of the time I don't get a chance to see the games so I log on to your site every day to see what's been going on. Hope you are enjoying it too.
